Daniel McGarvey, Founder and Artistic Director

Dan received his Masters Degree from the University of Colorado in Music Composition in 2004. In his professional life, Dan serves as Director of Music Ministries at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Boulder, and performs and tours with the 101st Army Band, where he plays trombone, bass guitar, and is frequently a featured vocalist. Equally at home in music theater as well as the choral stage, Dan has directed performances of Little Shop of Horrors, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Mame, and performed in productions of Fiddler on the Roof, Grease!, Hello, Dolly!, and Runaways, to name a few.

Dan obtained his Bachelor's Degree in Music Education, with a voice concentration, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He has held teaching positions in Boulder schools and the University of Colorado, and has several years of experience teaching voice privately. While earning his Composition Masters Degree, Dan became a founding member of Pendulum, CU's new music concert series, where he served as Program manager for two years. As a composer, Dan regularly writes for and collaborates with local organizations, most recently having completed a commission for the Golden Concert Choir, as well as a commission for Lucile Erwin Middle School in Loveland, CO for their 10th Anniversary celebration.

Dan's professional memberships include the American Choral Director's Association (ACDA), Colorado Music Educator's Association (CMEA) and ASCAP. He has recently returned to CU Boulder to pursue graduate studies in Choral Conducting under the guidance of Lawrence Kaptein and Joan Catoni Conlon.

Alyssa Koay, Staff Accompanist

Alyssa Koay is a graduate Masters student at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where she is studying piano performance with Doris Lehnert. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas. She graduated cum laude in 2008 from the Honors College with distinction. She also graduated with minors in Spanish and Pre-Medicine. While at Harding, Alyssa was actively involved as an accompanist in the university's production of musicals, which included Kismet, Beauty and the Beast, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Wizard of Oz, and also served as Concertmistress for the university orchestra from 2005-2008. In 2007, Alyssa won third prize in the University of Central Arkansas Solo Piano Competition and was awarded the Stella Boyle Smith Scholarship. She was also awarded numerous scholarships in recognition of her musical skills and academic achievements.

Alyssa is a native of Ipoh, Malaysia. She began her music education under the Yamaha Music School's Junior Music Course at the age of four. After graduating, Alyssa began formal piano, violin, and theory study with Hew Siew Chin following the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music syllabus. At age thirteen, having completed Grade eight with distinction, Alyssa moved to the United States and continued her piano studies with Margreet Francis at the Hartt School of Music in Connecticut. She was actively involved in the Opus Orchestra as a violinist, and was pianist for two piano trios under the coaching of Brunilda Myftaraj, with whom she also studied violin. Alyssa was given honors recognition for her chamber music participation with the piano trios. In 2003, as a junior in high school, Alyssa won first prize in the Musical Club of Hartford High School Competition, and was awarded the Evelyn Bonar Storrs Scholarship. She won second prize in the Connecticut Music Teachers Association Concerto Competition in 2003. She also received multiple awards in the Audrey Thayer Piano Competitions from 2000-2004. At Hartt, Alyssa also studied music theory and history under the Performer's Certificate Program, from which she graduated in 2003.

Alyssa has performed extensively as a soloist and chamber musician in Malaysia and in the United States. She is known for her musicality and exuberance in performance. Aside from being an active performer, she is also an arranger and teacher. She has completed several arranging projects in the summer.

Alyssa is also actively involved as a volunteer in numerous community projects. She has participated in several mission campaigns to Mexico, Singapore, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Her fluency in five languages has enabled her to connect with a diverse population and direct several outreach programs within these communities. She strives to promote musical programs as a ministry to minority groups in the future.
